PRINCOF hails timely release of GHC67.9m to Colleges of Education

Dr Emmanuel Nyamekye, the president of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), has commended the government for the timely release of funds to cater for the feeding and running of colleges of education in Ghana.

The government on Wednesday released GHC 67,943,652 to colleges of education after concerns by the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education-Ghana (PRINCOF) that the CoEs were struggling to feed teacher trainees in the 46 colleges as funds for that had been in arrears for over six months.

PRINCOF had hinted that the students might have to pay for their feeding in the coming days if the government did not intervene with some payment.

And, in a swift response, the Education Minister yesterday confirmed that some funds had been released to the CoEs.

Talking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on Thursday (21 April), Nyamekye welcomed the development.

“We are so excited, we are elated… the money is yet to hit our accounts but the details of the figures given is an indication that the monies have been released,” he said.

“And normally when it is released like that cheques are done for individual colleges…, I want to believe that the cheques will be done today, hopefully tomorrow we will pick up our cheques and be laughing to the bank.”

“Once we have it what will be the justification for not giving our students three square meals,” Nyamekye said.
